About Our Teaching Herds
Our teaching herds play an essential educational role in educating students on how to observe, monitor, and provide excellent care for every stage of life.
Our dedicated veterinary and animal care team closely monitors and cares for our teaching herds and ensures the utmost quality of life. To safeguard the quality of care, we document and report the health of our animals and retain oversight from IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) and the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture).
Our Horses
Our herd of over 20 horses is primarily composed of senior equines, who enjoy excellent veterinary care, food, and enrichment throughout their retirement years. Regular interaction with our horses teaches our future veterinarians to observe, monitor, and provide exceptional care for every stage of life.

Our Sheep
Our sheep are great ambassadors to help students learn about small ruminant handling, herding, and management of common health problems. In addition, sheep often have a range of personalities and comfort levels for working with people-which offers opportunities to learn patience and mindful handling.

Our retired dairy cows are a valued part of the Campus Agricultural Center family and are great teachers for students to learn proper handling techniques and care for large ruminants. You will often find our ladies grazing, socializing, and adding personality to our pastures.
