UArizona College of Veterinary Medicine Welcomes Second Class of Veterinary Students

The University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine accepted its second cohort of students into the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program in April 2021. The second cohort joins the inaugural class of 2023 in the three-year educational program with an expected graduation date of August 2024. Students will benefit from the innovative, strategic curriculum that helps prepare graduates to leave as successful career-ready leaders of the communities they serve.   

For the 2021 admissions cycle, the College of Veterinary Medicine received 1,550 applications to fill 110 seats. The incoming cohort includes 45 in-state and 65 nonresident students ranging from 19 to 44. Students earned an average cumulative GPA of 3.37 with a specific science GPA average of 3.27. Of the 110 students, 41% identify as an underrepresented minority, and 38% are considered first-generation.    

Dr. Julie Funk, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, welcomed the new cohort, saying, “The College is extremely excited to welcome this talented group of future colleagues. There is a great need for veterinary services in Arizona and the nation. The University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine is grateful to be able to serve this need through exceptional education for our students to be day-one ready for their careers.”
