A Countdown to Our Clinical Year
With less than a year until our students head into their clinical year, we are committed to providing a powerful educational experience.
The College of Veterinary Medicine believes Doctor of Veterinary Medicine candidates should be exposed to various possible career paths in the veterinary industry but understands that students may have focused areas of interest they would like to pursue. The University of Arizona and the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) evaluate all Clinical Affiliates before their approval to host Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine students during their clinical year. To provide students with a hands-on approach and the freedom to customize their clinical education, the Clinical Relations and Outreach team created a required number of core rotations. Rather than focusing only on equine, small animal, and food animal rotations, we will require general practice, specialty practice, and primary care/shelter medicine rotations.
Students will have the opportunity to choose where to fulfill these requirements from a list of pre-approved clinics previously evaluated by the College of Veterinary Medicine and the AVMA. We believe pursuing this approach for our clinical year requirements will be exciting and empowering for students. In addition, giving students the ability to choose their clinic rotations based on the species served, area of specialty, general interest in the practice, and the clinic’s location will increase engagement and encourage more significant hiring potential after graduation.
