VetCat Graduation Stories: Brooke Kearney
Celebrating our VetCat Journeys: Where They Are Going
As graduation approaches, students are planning their next steps, and Brooke Kearney is no exception. A soon-to-be Doctor of Veterinary Medicine graduate, Brooke has a clear vision for her future, shaped by her educational experiences and clinical training.
Brooke's Journey to General Practice
After three years of continuous study, Brooke plans to take some well-deserved time off before starting her professional career at a general practice in Central Phoenix. She said, “Following graduation, I will travel with family and friends until I start work in late September.” This period of rest will provide a crucial transition from student life to the responsibilities of a full-time veterinarian.
Following her travels, Brooke will start as an associate veterinarian at a general practice in Central Phoenix, a location that’s already familiar to her. “I rotated through this practice in December 2023 and am excited to return as a full-time doctor,” she says. Her previous experience at the clinic has given her valuable insights into the work environment, and she’s eager to dive in as a vital member of the team.
Pursuing Her Passion
Throughout her veterinary education, Brooke discovered a love for various aspects of the field. “Over the course of veterinary school and clinical year, I have fallen in love with surgery, dentistry, endocrinology, and client education. As a general practitioner, I can get a sprinkle of all of my interests every day!” she explains. This diverse set of interests has led her to choose a general practice where she can engage in various veterinary services daily.
One of the aspects Brooke is most excited about in her new role is building relationships with clients and their pets. “I am most excited to build relationships with owners and their furry family members,” she says. Her dedication to comprehensive care and passion for educating clients will be the driving force in her practice, ensuring that pets and their owners receive the best possible care.
Leveraging Experience to Serve Her Community
Brooke’s clinical rotation at the Central Phoenix practice prepared her for the demands of her new role and solidified her decision to join the team full-time. “During my clinical rotation at the practice where I will work, I gained hands-on experience in surgery, dentistry, and client communication. These experiences solidified my desire to return as a full-time associate and prepared me to hit the ground running,” she recalls. This hands-on experience has equipped her with the practical skills necessary to thrive in her new position.
Brooke's decision to stay and work in Arizona offers her the opportunity to serve the local community that she loves. She shared, "Staying in Arizona allows me to continue working in an environment I love, surrounded by a community I care deeply about. The supportive network and the diverse caseload in Central Phoenix make it an ideal place to begin my career." Arizona offers Brooke the perfect combination of a supportive environment and a challenging, diverse practice, making it an excellent place for her to launch her veterinary career.
