Purina is committed to veterinary students, interns and residents throughout their educational journeys. Purina Veterinary Communications Managers deliver lectures aimed at preparing new graduates to have meaningful nutritional conversations with pet parents. Purina “goodwill grants” are used to maximize educational opportunities and support the health and well-being of vet students.

National Efforts

  • Nutritional Scholarships are awarded each year to the 3rd or 4th year student showing particular aptitude in the area of Companion Animal Nutrition.
  • Purina provides funding for the annual Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) Symposium. This educational and relationship building conference allows students an off-campus learning experience and a unique networking opportunity.
  • Purina is a Platinum Sponsor for the student-founded and run Veterinary Business Management

Association (VBMA), allowing these veterinary students to develop valuable business and marketing skills often not taught in traditional veterinary school curriculums.

Advancing Companion Animal Nutrition

Purina is committed to funding innovative research, including a better understanding of disease pathogenesis and how nutrition can help to manage conditions in the dog and cat. In addition to the millions of dollars spent in our internal R&D departments, Purina also collaborates with veterinary universities supporting independent research.

National Efforts

Purina provides research grants exclusively to students or residents. This encourages students and residents to consider a post-graduate career in research or helps them complete a required project for a residency.

As always, every protocol is approved through the school’s IACUC board and by our strict non-invasive animal care guidelines as well as for scientific impact.

At the University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine

Purina has been excited to partner with the Arizona CVM since its initiation, helping to sponsor the stoles received by the inaugural class of 2023 and white coats for classes thereafter; supporting DEI initiatives, and partnering formally at a Gold Level. In addition, Purina helped sponsor the CVM’s community-centered mobile unit.

According to Dr Shelly Adrian, Senior Veterinary Communications Manager,

“Our partnership with the University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine aligns with so many values we at Purina believe in strongly. At the core, we believe passionately that people and pets are better together. Our goal is to help the veterinarians of tomorrow understand how nutrition can be a part of practicing best medicine, as well as further the human-animal bond. We believe that, offering nutrition recommendations across all access and price points, and constantly pursuing innovative and science-backed nutrition solutions, we can empower the veterinary team and improve the lives of pets and the people who love them.”
