Orientation

Orientation for DVM students in the Class of 2023 will take place over August 19-21, 2020. Orientation is required for incoming students and will run from about 8:00 AM until about 5:00 PM each day. The focus will be on introducing students to the DVM program, equipping and training students to use VetHub (online class management) and presenting valuable academic and student affairs resources that will support student success. This period of introduction will be an environment rich with opportunities for students to engage with one another, meet college faculty and staff, and enjoy our unique community.

All plans will be in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines set by the University and other health officials.

The New Student Convocation Ceremony will honor students' educational journeys while demonstrating our support as they pursue their education in veterinary medicine. The ceremony will inspire students to strive for success and will encourage both academic and personal connections within each class.

This Convocation Ceremony will be unlike any other. As students begin their new journey, we desire to bridge their transition to the veterinary profession while bonding them to each other and their community of support. Each person has stories to tell, and we aim to honor both individual and shared histories.

At Convocation, we extend the invitation for students to bring something meaningful that represents them and their journey. In turn, we will present them with a symbol of our commitment to our shared journey together.

Before the Start of Classes

Students will be required to establish a NetID in order to access required university systems including UAccess (to pay tuition, accept financial aid, register for classes, etc.) and their university email account.

Once students have registered for at least one class in the fall, they can start the process of getting a University of Arizona student ID, AKA, a CatCard!

New students will be directed to the following website to start the process: https://catcard.arizona.edu/mycatcard-instructions. Students already in possession of a CatCard with UA will proceed with a different process.

A professional photo (e.g. a passport photo) will be required to begin the process. It is recommended that the head, neck, and shoulders be visible, dress should be business casual or business formal, shirts should have sleeves (cap/short sleeves are OK), jewelry should be kept to a minimum and bold prints avoided.

All new student CatCards will be distributed during Fall Orientation.

Students will need a laptop computer which meets or exceeds the following:

  • Processor: i5
  • Ram: 8 GB
  • Storage: 256 GB

These are suggested minimum specs. Higher quality items are more than acceptable.

While not required, a computer monitor for at-home use is recommended. Monitors that meet the necessary requirements are available for sale through the UA Bookstore.

UA CVM students are required to submit the following immunizations to the UA Campus Health Immunizations Office

  • Proof of 2 MMR (complete prior to Orientation)
  • Tetanus (Td) vaccination within last 10 years (complete prior to Orientation)
  • Rabies 3 shot series (administered within the last 2 years or restart the series).
    • Expect a titer check prior to third-year clinical rotations.
